Do you know when your driver’s license expires?

Here’s the deal.  The Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) discontinued several mailings, scaled back branch office hours, and changed driver test hours for some offices. The changes are all part of the state budget squeeze.

Mail notices eliminated

Discontinued notices include: driver’s license renewals, vehicle inspection reminders, driver’s education certificates, Junior Operator brochures for parents, MA ID renewals, license reinstatement letters, registration reinstatement letters.

Retire green license plates

The RMV is anxious to replace GREEN license plates that have become illegible through loss of paint or reflective quality with the new Spirit of America RED plate. Green plates can be swapped for red plates at no fee. Massachusetts regulations require that license plates be readable from a minimum distance of 60 feet. If your plate is illegible, you may be cited by law enforcement or you may be rejected for an inspection sticker.
